Apple has apparently revised its plans for the development of the next versions of its operating systems. iOS 18, macOS 15 and watchOS 11 would be paused, time for the manufacturer to focus on fixing bugs.

Apple wants to do things right

According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple has completed a first version of its next systems, scheduled for next year. But it was only during the crucial phase of re-testing the code that the manufacturer realized the technical instability of the work being done.

Given this observation, Apple has decided to pause the development of new features to focus on fixing bugs but also on the performance of these future versions.

With thousands of Apple employees working on different operating systems and devices that need to work seamlessly together, errors can easily creep in. “It’s a problem when you have 10,000 people programming at the same time and it crashes the operating system,” said a person familiar with the matter.

This is not the first time that Apple has made such a decision: in 2018, the manufacturer also pressed the pause button during the development of iOS 12 to focus on fixing bugs, thereby delaying work on new features.

In this case, Apple would have paused development for a short week and should pick up speed again this week. The decision is not expected to delay the release of these versions to the general public, as they will be previewed to developers in early summer 2024.
