Samsung is reportedly working on a connected watch to counter the Apple Watch Ultra 2. The information comes from the Gizmochina website, which is not necessarily used to publishing exclusive products, so this information should be taken with caution.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra, as it could be called, would feature a micro-LED screen. This would allow Samsung Display to publicize its new connected watch panels based on this technology. This would also be the first watch to integrate a micro-LED panel from Samsung Display.
The perfect combination between LCD and OLED
These new screens would therefore integrate tiny LEDs with a size of less than 50 µm. The advantage of this technology is that it combines the advantages of Oled and LCD. No backlight, which allows infinite contrast but also better brightness than Oled and limiting the risk of burn-in or panel wear.
The publication adds without further details that the Galaxy Watch Ultra would integrate different features compared to the Galaxy Watch 6. We also don’t know the release date of the new watch or the price increase that Samsung would plan compared to a classic model. Since Micro-LED is still a relatively new technology even for televisions, we have to expect significant costs.
