A few months after ROME comes ROCK. This version of OpenMandriva is aimed at companies, servers and users looking for more stability. It has a Linux 6.6.2 kernel and here are the main changes made.
OpenMandriva Lx 5.0 is a new version developed by the OpenMandriva Association that continues the legacy of the defunct Mandriva. Codename: Iodine.
In the release notes we learn that the Rock distribution is based on a Linux 6.6.2 kernel. It includes a new edition of Calamares, its installer. There Flatpak support is included.
The environment KDE Plasma 5 is adopted (5.27.9), with Frameworks 5.112, KDE Gear 23.08.3 and Qt 5.15.11. Don’t want too much? System repositories also include Mate 1.26.2, xfce 4.18.5, Cinnamon 5.8.0, icewm, i3, sway, hyprland, hypr, wayfire, budgie and others.
If Xorg 21.1.9 is still used by defaultThere are other options available to you including Wayland 23.2.2 and Mesa 23.3.0 rc4.3. However, KDE Plasma 6 will require Wayland when it is released. It is strongly recommended to select it first or prepare to use it.
The applications are also well updated, including LibreOffice 7.6.3.2, Falkon 23.08.3, Firefox 120, Chromium Stable 119, Krita 5.2.1, GIMP 2.10.36, Calligra Suite 3.3.0, Digikam 8.1.0, Virtualbox 7.0.12a and OBS Studio 30.0.0.
