Instagram will soon be less curious about your data – L’Éclaireur Fnac

Meta is not necessarily considered the most sensitive piece of personal data. But she’s doing better.

The business model of Meta and all of its applications in general is the sale of advertising space. Advertising space that is even more profitable when targeted. Therefore, the company needs to collect huge amounts of data about its users in order to be even more important to advertisers. However, an upcoming change will cause Instagram to slow down (somewhat).

A new option for smoother navigation

Meta announced earlier this week that it plans to implement a new option on smartphones that will allow us to tell the Instagram application not to follow us when we use it to browse websites. For example by clicking on a link.

In fact, Instagram is able to track your every move if you use the browser built into the application. Valuable information that allows you to target your advertising profile even better and thus offer you increasingly relevant advertising.

But only in the United States (for now), a new option called “Activity outside of Meta” now lets you review all sites that have shared information about your browsing with the company and still opt-out.

A feature already available on Facebook and therefore more generally available on Meta’s other most popular service.

Transfer your photos to other services

Another major new feature that Meta announced: It’s now possible (still in the US) to transfer all of your Instagram photos and videos to another photo hosting service. How this new feature works is still a bit unclear.

The specialized website The Verge says it has not yet received any details from Meta on the subject. But on paper, it’s still a good way to create regular archives of your content posted on Instagram.

Additionally, with Meta Account Center, launched earlier this year, you can now access the archive of all your Facebook and Instagram data at the same time. Enough to save yourself sometimes lengthy processes.
