From Hogwarts Legacy to Assassin’s Creed, what big games are on the Switch? – L’Éclaireur Fnac

In March 2017, Nintendo revolutionized the video game industry with the Switch: a hybrid console that can be used in portable mode or connected to a television screen. More importantly, since its launch, this machine has been able to draw on very large titles from Nintendo studios, such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey (both released in the weeks or months after dem). release of the switch).

Other very colorful works, which primarily focus on easy handling and immediate gaming pleasure, then saw the light of day: Mario Golf: Super Rush, Just Dance, Super Mario Party and Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe, not to mention their quotes. Despite the many qualities these titles still possess, these releases have led a certain number of gamers to label the Switch as too family-friendly, not made for gamers, or even intended exclusively for children. Big mistake.

In fact, Big N’s newest machine has plenty of other things to offer. If Mario, Kirby and Co. do not meet your expectations and selection criteria, we are absolutely sure that you will find what you are looking for in the Switch’s huge game library.

Thanks to current technologies, the benefits of optimization or even the use of cloud gaming, many very big budget (or AAA) games are entitled to their own port to the console. So let’s try to dispel prejudices by giving you a decent selection of the main AAAs currently playable on Switch and a preview of what awaits us in the coming weeks.

1 Doom Eternal

After a very good first reboot episode that saw the light of day in 2016, the month of March 2020 was marked by the release of the sequel, first on PC and home consoles and a few months later on Switch. Very quickly, this episode developed into a true jewel of fast FPS, with a masterful gameplay, handling with a perfectly mastered level of difficulty and, above all, an almost perfect graphics and sound atmosphere.

From the beginning to the end of the adventure, we experience the game as a release on a grand scale, without drifting into the absurd, with an exciting multiplayer component and an additional character in the game – despite logical technical concessions to the given characteristics of the machine Porting Doom Eternal to Switch a very good title that needs to be on your to-do list.

2 The Witcher 3

Without a doubt the most famous and well-known episode of the saga inspired by the work of Andrzej Sapkowski. With this title, the CD Projekt RED studio has outdone itself and pushed the boundaries of storytelling for an open-world game with impressive quests, lovable characters and stunning production. We immediately feel the enormous work of the developers and the desire to offer the best of the adventures of the witcher Geralt of Rivia.

Here, too, the port is not technically perfect, but on the whole everything remains fluid and, above all, allows players to immerse themselves in this vast, immersive universe in a nomadic format. If you choose the Complete Edition, in addition to the main adventure, you can enjoy the magnificent Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions for over a hundred hours.

3 Alien Isolation

Many adaptations of cinematic sagas have seen the light of day in video games. Not all of them were notable, but fortunately that’s not the case with Alien Isolation. The universe is wonderfully well transcribed, the tension is palpable from one end of the plot to the other and this feeling of helplessness fits perfectly with the original work, with a clever mix of action and infiltration peppered with an exquisite dimension of horror.

It’s a real treat for all survival horror fans. Thanks to the real masterwork of the teams at The Creative Assembly, the game is perfectly playable and adapted to the Nomadic format, even offering the luxury of integrating all the additional content released after the initial release, as well as voice dubbing.

4 Assassin’s Creed

It is impossible to name a specific work, since many of them are already available on the Nintendo console. So you can resort to Assassin’s Creed III Remastered, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Assassin’s Creed: Rogue, Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection or even Assassin’s Creed: Anniversary Edition Mega Bundle, which brings together all of the aforementioned software.

You will immerse yourself in epic adventures, each offering a different view of the world of Assassins but with a similar goal: to eliminate your targets while remaining as discreet as possible, thereby bringing honor to your brotherhood.

From a technical point of view, all of these games are perfectly playable on Big N’s latest console, and some have even received a graphical overhaul for the occasion. Whichever work you choose, you will be well placed to discover or rediscover it.

5 Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice

Upon its release in August 2017, the title developed by Ninja Theory was perceived as a real UFO, especially in terms of its sound dimension and the themes covered in the adventure. Without telling you too much, the game always tries to push you to your limits and think differently than usual.

The direction and staging also benefited from great care and the plot was admirably highlighted by the excellent performance of Melina Jürgens in the skin of Senua. Good news: the magic works just as well on Switch, so the title maintains that intense immersion and desire to immerse the player in a universe that will shock them. Of course, the graphical aspect isn’t particularly appealing, but that won’t affect your appreciation of the journey in any way.

It’s always a joy to be able to tackle a true video game monument anywhere. The Skyrim episode is undoubtedly the most well-known and appreciated episode of the entire The Elder Scrolls saga, and that’s no small feat. This can undoubtedly be explained by an infallible lifespan, a very nice soundtrack, perfect gameplay and an intriguing plot that represents a real development of the hero, the characters surrounding him and the world in which he develops.

When the Switch port was announced, the community was understandably fearful of a new concentration of bugs from Bethesda, but it’s clear that the result is pretty amazing for a title of this magnitude: a universe that’s still just as enjoyable, fluid and visually satisfying expedition, gameplay options specifically for the Switch and above all the soul of the game that is still there.

7 Diablo III: Eternal Gathering

The greatest hack-and-slash saga at your fingertips. The qualities of such a title no longer need to be proven: we know well that all fans of the genre (or almost all) appreciated this title, whether thanks to its plot punctuated by a well-developed scenario and some emotional phases, he is absolutely lush soundtrack or its gameplay as rich as it is natural to learn.

Add to that high-end graphics for the time and, above all, a completely satisfactory lifespan, which has since been significantly extended, and the end result is a work that counted for the industry. We can also congratulate the developers on the quality of the Switch port, since the gameplay seems perfectly adapted to the Joycon and the technical aspect (especially the fluidity) is there.

As is often the case, we use all the content published in the game for hours of fun. Additionally, if Diablo III: Eternal Collection has awakened your love for the saga, you can try porting Diablo II: Resurrected.

8 Dragon Ball FighterZ

With this title, the studio Arc System Works has managed to offer an excellent adaptation of the manga, and that was obviously not an easy task. In addition to the settings and the artistic direction, which represent a living tribute to the work of Akira Toriyama, we must admire the care taken in the animations of the characters and the variety of the gameplay, which gives the title all its dynamism and accessibility, being of course contains many references for fans.

As for the port to Nintendo Switch, the result is good: despite some graphical concessions in terms of certain environments and visual effects, the final formula works, offering considerable fluidity while maintaining a decent resolution.

9 Red Dead Redemption

One of Rockstar Games’ greatest classics. When released in 2010, this title catapulted the franchise into another dimension after a less qualitative first episode. Although it is certainly the most well-known work, it does not represent the beginning of the license, as Red Dead Revolver saw the light of day in 2004.

In any case, Red Dead Redemption brings together all the know-how of the American company to offer an absolutely unforgettable journey, mastered from start to finish. Just a few months ago, Rockstar announced the release of the game for Switch and what a surprise we were when we discovered how carefully this port was created! The graphics are certainly impressive, the narrative and scenario are still pleasant to follow and the handling is absolutely flawless.

10 And after that?

Whether it is the classic version, the Light model or its evolution with an OLED screen, the Switch continues to be sold in pallets and the developers intend to continue exploiting the vein. Therefore, more ports of AAA games are in the works and will be playable in portable format very soon.

Hogwarts Legacy, for example, arrives on consoles on November 14th and promises to let us experience the magical adventures of the world of Harry Potter right in the palm of our hands. With this software, Avalanche Software has demonstrated true mastery of universe customization. Knowing how much fans love this work, it was obviously not an easy goal to achieve.

From Hogwarts Legacy to Assassins Creed what big games are©Avalanche Software / Warner Bros. Games

Everything is superbly designed to immerse the player in the world of the most famous wizard, even though the game is set almost 800 years before the adventures told in the books and films. Art direction for dying, choice system, lifespan, magic management and gameplay… It’s a real joy to walk through the corridors of Hogwarts.

Given the first visuals released by Nintendo, the graphical aspect seems to be below the PlayStation and Xbox One versions, but that should not prevent the magic from happening when the rest is mastered and the adventure with as much enthusiasm as ever is experienced. Enjoyment .

With Batman Arkham Asylum in 2009 and its sequels Arkham City and Arkham Knight, Rocksteady simply redefined the fundamentals of superhero video games. So much so that many have been inspired by it ever since – isn’t that Marvel’s Spider-Man?

With Batman Arkham Trilogy, the feeling of truly embodying the Dark Knight has never been so palpable, especially as the bestiary of enemies is full: Joker, Mr. Freeze, Penguin, Two-Face, Harley Quinn, the Scarecrow… .Everyone is here for this iconic trilogy. We hope to reclaim all of that championship by releasing the Switch port of these three games starting December 1st.
