Alan Wake 2 is the next game from Remedy Entertainment, the fathers of the Max Payne series. The game will be released on October 27th and unfortunately almost every second player will not be able to enjoy it due to an incompatible GPU.

Alan Wake, the first of its kind, is a third-person action game with horror components the second work is a real one Survival horror. The game from the Finnish studio should be a feast for the eyes great graphics. However, Remedy has just released the list recommended configurationsand the game seems to be playable on it a fairly limited selection of machines.
Alan Wake 2 is therefore optimized (without ray tracing) to 30 fps 1080p, which is equivalent to performance on the Xbox Series S, for PCs equipped with one RTX 2060, one of the first DirectX 12 Ultimate compatible GPUs (but currently no longer in production). However, e.g GPUs are not supported the technology of Mesh shaders, no compatibility planned.
As a reminder: The Mesh shading is an adaptive technology that allows you to increase or decrease the Rate of triangles of an object depending on its importance on the screen. This technology makes it possible relieve some of the load on the CPUs by not unnecessarily displaying elements that could significantly slow down the process.
We can therefore say goodbye GTX series 10 and to RX5000an amazing decision on the part of Remedy, which therefore prefers to almost give up 50% of GPUs with which the players are equipped. In any case, that’s what the Steam stats from report from September 2023 on user hardware the platform.
Consoles first, PC if possible
According to the communications director Thomas PutaThe remedy would have been the optimization ofAlan Wake 2 on home consoles (versions that benefit from a performance mode). It is therefore a risky bet, but not surprising for the game developers who did it I prefer the console experience living room instead of that of PCs.
“As a console gamer, I’m very happy with the state of Alan Wake on home consoles. We focused on this throughout the game’s development to ensure it runs smoothly and delivers incredible graphics. […] We have enough staff to provide the best PC performance possible.”
Words from Thomas Puta that can do it raise questions but it’s true that Alan Wake 2 actually looks like this great on PS5. On the other hand, if the game can continue RTX 2060we have to wait and see how it behaves under real conditions to know whether Development decisions from the studio are justified.
