A Quebecer among the nominees for the NHRA Rookie of the Year title – CNW Telbec

MONTREAL, Nov. 7, 2023 /CNW/ – The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) announces the nomination of five NHRA Camping World Racing competitors for the 2023 Rookie of the Year race.

Among them is Quebecer Daniel Mercier of Mercier Racing, a Top Fuel driver from Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec. What is Top Fuel? It is the fastest drag race, we could compare it to Formula 1 or Nascar. This season he qualified for six national events in this category. This is the special feature that gives him a chance at the rookie title despite already having more than 15 years of experience in drag racing.

This sport brings together millions of fans worldwide on social networks. In North America, hundreds of thousands of viewers follow the performances on NHRA.tv or the Fox Sports app.

This award recognizes the best rookie who also represents the future of the NHRA drag racing series. American racing journalists select the winner using a voting system.

Why is this remarkable? Because this Quebecer, significantly faster than his shadow, takes 14th place in a ranking of around forty teams. Also because he does not take part in all races in this category, while the thirteen teams placed ahead of him race full-time.

To put it simply, he is an NHL player who only played half a season! It only manages to reach 524.27 km/h in 3.743 seconds. We wish him good luck.

Mr. Mercier will compete in his final race of the season this weekend at the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals in Pomona, California.
